Node In Small Places! & Tips for Serverless AWS Lambda!

Hi Nodesters! We've got great talks this month! NOTE THE LOCATION at Shutterstock!!!*

Carlos Justiniano - Node in Small Places!

NodeJS and Javascript are finding their way into incredibly small places. This presentation looks at running NodeJS on computers costing well under 10 dollars.
In this talk we'll see how these tiny computers can be configured to run Linux, NodeJS and Redis. And we're not talking about some outdated version of Node - nope, we're talking about Node 6.5 featuring ES6!  We'll also look at how NodeJS can be used to control computers too small to run Node, such as the famed Arduino family of microprocessors. Along the way we'll touch on realtime communication using websockets. This would all be theory if we didn't go the extra mile to demo this live using Hydra Cluster, our very own 16-core compute cluster!

Carlos will be giving away a Raspberry Pi Zero and everything you need to start hacking Node in small places, yourself!

Jim Lynch - Tips For Serverless Node.js Scripts With AWS Lambda

Curious how to use the Amazon Web Service's tool "Lambda" to run your server side code without the cost and hassle of spinning up and maintaining a linux instance? Join Jim Lynch as he talks about how to set up a Node.js function in AWS Lambda, calling to it from a local JavaScript file, passing data back and forth, running Lambda functions as scheduled cron jobs, and even securing your Lambda functions so they can only be invoked from specific domains!

Glenn Hinks - MongoDB, a cautionary tale's feedback and what about the Neo4J graph DB

After last month's lightning talk, Glenn is back to give us a quick primer on what he learned after his last talk and feedback from the group!

More Lightning Talks Spots Available! Reach out with topics to present!

***Note on security***: As always, please ensure your full name is listed on your Meetup profile, if you RSVP yes to join. Building security will need it to grant you access to the event.

We'll be at Shutterstock this month. Thanks to Shutterstock for hosting! It's going to be a great event!

See you there!
