Node Addon Development Made Easy w/ Thorsten Lorenz + Lightening Talks!
Wednesday 24 Sep 2014 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Feature Event: Node Addons Made Easy! w/ Thorsten Lorenz
This month Thorsten Lorenz will be talking about Node addons - one of Node's lesser known, but super powerful features - the ability to drop down to low level C or C++ for performance and to leverage existing libraries. Many developers that use Node.js daily shy away from trying themselves at writing an addon. The bar to entry just seems a bit too high, but it doesn't have to be! Thorsten will show how easy it can be to get started and how much fun it can be to develop Node.js addons using proper tooling!
We'll start off the night with Brad Oyler talking about the transition he helped guide to move NBCNews.com to Node.js. Along the journey, he'll cover code you'll want to know when creating content sites with Node.js!
Wait! There's MORE!
Lightening Talk: Ray Hightower on Node & OpenROV!
OpenROV is an underwater robot running Linux and Node.js. The OpenROV GitHub repo contains all source code and hardware schematics. That’s right, it’s open source! In less than five minutes, Ray will describe OpenROV construction (you build it from a kit), software architecture, and exploration.
