Hi Nodesters! We've got great talks this month! NOTE THE LOCATION at Shutterstock!!!*

Nick Hehr - Bringing Empathy to Hardware

Getting started with hardware used to require a computer science or electrical engineering degree, but now there are so many options for hobbyists and makers with a background in JavaScript and the web! The Tessel 2, along with the open-source project behind it, has made this process even more approachable and inclusive for anyone wanting to get started with building web-connected hardware projects. In this talk, Nick will dive into how he discovered the Tessel, how he joined its wonderful community, and ultimately started helping guide the future of the project as a member of the steering committee.

Brian Polonia - A Hairstylist learns React Native

I was a hairstylist for ten years and made a career change into software engineering. Learning React Native and going to Meetups played a major role in my transition. This is the story of how it happened!

Adar Earon - Shoov: Open Source Visual Regression and Live Monitoring Tool from Gizra

Visual regression testing brings automated tests into front end web development. Rather than testing the code internals, visual testing focuses on the outcome, comparing the code’s final output with the expected results at the pixel level. Shoov is an Open Source visual regression testing tool we developed at Gizra for our internal use. Tying together several existing tools and APIs - GitHub, Behat, Travis, BrowserStack, ngrok and more - Shoov is able to constantly and automatically check site pages, detecting any changes at the output. It lets devlopers write their own testing code with their own tools and integrates seamlessly with Git and GitHub.

***Note on security***: As always, please ensure your full name is listed on your Meetup profile, if you RSVP yes to join. Building security will need it to grant you access to the event.

We'll be at Shutterstock this month. Thanks to Shutterstock for hosting! It's going to be a great event!

See you there!
